Progress Report: May 2025

So first off, Mt. Fomhair's mountain trail has been completed and its story drafted. The last 'boss fight' on the peak of the mountain needs to be programmed, though that will require more animation frames for Jean. Also, as I'm still waiting on art assets for the revamped picnic basket, I've just been mapping and drafting story events and not so much adding in enemies. Which lead to the creation of Tua'tha.

As was shown in the previous blog, I started work on Tua'tha, and as of last week, I was able to finish mapping it out and getting the first set of story events that occur prior to when the spirit trial starts. This also includes the introduction of a couple characters, one who will be recurring for story purposes, and the other for mostly side-quests after this chapter.

These two were made with the character generator, so they may get some things changed, especially for the latter character. I'm also going to avoid giving the latter any kind of profile page until I'm confident enough to produce something of substance without giving too much away. I do have plans for them, especially the latter character.

Lastly, right at the end of the month, I received skit portraits for William and had started incorporating them into the game. I started on one skit with him, have plans for a couple more with him, as I would like to have him be part of some skits in the updated demo. That still requires more assets, of course, so after a short break this week, I'm going to start work on Gnome's dungeon. Going to try and find some tilesets to make it seem a little more than just another underground dungeon (but with moving parts and puzzles to match), though it might be tricky with not many matching the graphic style I have going right now. I am open to suggestions on either paid or free tilesets that might be handy to have here or for later.

All in all, I'd say this was a very productive month for me. In time, once 'everything' relating to Tua'tha is done, as well as one other cutscene that takes you to the next town, I will start going through the maps and add in enemy encounters. And then, once I have those taken care of and I still lack the necessary assets for the updated demo, I'll just keep making maps, program events, and draft the story and just take it easy. As long as the story gets done, and the maps for them are set up, I can always backtrack and tidy up. I hope to get far along when that happens.
