Character Profile: William Damaris

General Description

William, or Will for short, is one of two dedicated mages in the group, thanks to his time at the Royal Magic Academy. When he was younger, he was a close friend of Aki before circumstances lead to them separating and it wouldn't be for many years until they saw each other again. Although he does what he can to help, he sometimes needs time to really make out what he wants to do or say.

Fighting Style

As a mage, he relies on magic artes that he's learned from books that he's read or acquired. While they act as his primary weapon-type, I'm considering if they should double as how he learns individual artes, or leave that to side events like with the spellbooks from Phantasia. Another possibility is allowing him to alter or combine spells while otherwise learning Earth-based artes naturally. Regardless, he leans a little bit toward being an offensive mage while having support capabilities.

Inspiration

Outside of having a fighting style similar to Kongwai from Innocence R, part of his personality is based on my own personal experience. Where I'd have trouble communicating, interacting and needing to really put things into words somehow...social issues that require a bit of patience to get through. It's just something I'd like to bring into the story and see what can be done with it.

Story

As a kid, he used to live with his mother in another country where man and nature were more blissful than where he lives now; for after she passed away, he went to live in his native country with his father, who serves as a high-ranking officer in the royal army. Although his magic capabilities are on par with the rest of the students at the academy, many tend to look down on him for squandering his potential in favor of things less-desirable to those in nobility. As a result, he tends to struggle with being around people.

At the start, he was given a chance to meet a former academy teacher and study under them during break. Said teacher also happens to be a client that Aki and Piper are told to assist and while he's allowed to accompany them and study, he ends up trying to avoid as much interaction with Aki as he can; despite being close friends before. But what will he do when she starts acknowledging him often?

Wrap-Up

Like before, I'm going to work my way through everyone starting with Piper and getting a basic set-up going before I work on getting more attack animations. Though, William will definitely be one character I'll need to experiment with to see what approach I should go with for how he uses magic.
